At Vera Living, we put you first, always. Our friendly expert team work closely with NDIS participants to help them find their ideal home. Each participant’s home must be tailored to their needs with the right supports in place, and for shared homes, we meticulously match participants with like-minded individuals to ensure a harmonious living environment.
Vera is committed to creating a happy home for our participants by working closely with participants and Support Independent Living (SIL) providers across Australia. A Supported Independent Living provider is responsible for the care participants receive in the home, assisting with daily tasks to help independent living. Our matching approach focuses on two key areas to get the right match.
Step one: Matching SIL Providers to Participants
First, we focus on pairing the right SIL provider with each participant. This goes beyond just matching needs – it’s about ensuring safety and comfort. Here’s how we do it:
1.Understanding Needs, Preferences and Goals
We begin by thoroughly assessing each participant’s needs, preferences, and goals. This includes sharing support plans and documents to help providers understand the level of support required.
2. Ensuring Skilled Support
SIL providers must have trained and capable staff to meet the identified needs. We aim for a best practice approach where participants can help choose their support staff, ensuring a good fit.
3. Aligning Expertise and Support
We ensure that the provider’s expertise aligns with the participant’s support needs and available funding.
4. Trial Stays
Providers may offer trial stays or visits to ensure suitability and comfort. This could mean staying overnight, or simply going round for dinner one evening.
5. Finalising Arrangements
Once a match is successful, we finalise service agreements and support the transition process.
6. Continuous Feedback
We regularly review and adjust the matching process based on tenant feedback to ensure ongoing satisfaction.
Step two: Matching Participants with Each Other
Creating a harmonious living environment also involves careful matching of participants with each other, pairing like-minded individuals with shared interests. Here’s our approach:
1. Assessing Compatibility
We evaluate compatibility based on personalities, interests, and living preferences. For example, some participants may prefer living with others of the same gender, and some may have no preference.
2. Balancing Support Needs
We ensure that support needs can be effectively met for all participants, including reviewing support funding.
3. Facilitating Interactions
We provide opportunities for participants to meet and interact before making any decisions. This often includes input from guardians or family members and could be meeting at a local café or park.
4. Setting Expectations
We discuss living expectations, roles, and responsibilities to ensure everyone is on the same page.
5. Final Decisions
Participants, along with their guardians or supported decision-makers, provide feedback and make the final decision on living arrangements. We ensure participants always have choice and control and are happy with their decision.
6. Ongoing Evaluation
We continually gather feedback to ensure all tenants are happy and make adjustments as needed. We offer rolling leases and never ask for a bond, so tenants are never locked in and always have a choice to move – and we’re more than happy to help.
Creating supportive and happy homes for our tenants is part of our mission at Vera. Striving for each individual to feel valued, secure and empowered in their living environment. Our collaborative approach with SIL providers and careful matching process ensures that each participant finds the right home and companions, making every day brighter. Our Vera Living communities are inclusive and foster a sense of belonging and connection for our tenants.
