Finding Belonging by the Marina: How Three Friends Created Their Dream Community and SDA Home near Brisbane

A group of friends in a library

In a Brisbane port town, friends Jake*, Rachel*, and Lottie* were living separately in unsuitable homes not fit for their needs. Each had different accessibility and support needs, and wished for a home that offered belonging, independence, and community connection.

Vera Living’s Queensland Participant Engagement Specialist guided them in finding a spacious, fully accessible SDA home near the marina. The property features two shared living areas, an outdoor room, and large bedrooms with accessible ensuites, plus assistive technology to enhance independence. They were also able to bring their existing Supported Independent Living (SIL) providers with them, ensuring continuity of care and support.

The trio now enjoys a harmonious, accessible home that reflects their individuality, allowing them to connect with their local community and thrive together. They were delighted to be able to personalise their home and truly make it their own. Every corner is filled with marks of their individuality and cherished memories together. Jake, Rachel and Lottie remain happy in their home and local community and look forward to many more happy years.
