Finding the Perfect Fit in Shared SDA Homes: NDIS Participant Housing & SIL Matching

At Vera Living, we specialise in helping NDIS participants find their ideal home in Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) properties. Our expert team works closely with participants to ensure homes are tailored to individual needs, with the right supports in place. For shared living, we carefully match tenants with compatible, like-minded housemates to create harmonious, supportive, and inclusive living environments.
Vera is committed to creating a happy home for our participants by working closely with participants and Support Independent Living (SIL) providers across Australia. A SIL provider is responsible for the care NDIS participants receive in the home, assisting with daily tasks to help independent living. Our matching approach focuses on two key areas to get the right match.
Step 1: Matching SIL Providers to NDIS Participants
Matching the right Supported Independent Living (SIL) provider with each participant is key to a safe, comfortable, and supportive home.
Our process includes:
- Understanding Needs and Goals – We assess each participant’s lifestyle, support needs, and preferences.
- Ensuring Skilled Support – SIL providers must have trained staff capable of meeting care requirements. We encourage participants to help select their SIL provider to ensure choice and control.
- Aligning Expertise and Support – Provider expertise is matched to support needs and available NDIS funding.
- Trial Stays and Visits – Overnight stays or short visits allow NDIS participants to experience the home before committing.
- Finalising Arrangements – We assist with service agreements and support the transition to an SDA home.
- Ongoing Feedback – Regular check-ins ensure continuous satisfaction and adjustments when needed. For more information on our approach to SIL collaboration, visit our SDA for Support Providers page.
Step 2: Matching Participants with Each Other
A successful shared home also depends careful matching of participants. We ensure participants are paired with housemates who share interests, personalities, and living preferences.
Our approach includes:
- Assessing Compatibility – We consider personality, lifestyle, and gender preferences.
- Balancing Support Needs – Support requirements and NDIS funding are considered for all participants.
- Facilitating Interaction Opportunities – Meetings with housemates, guardians, or family help ensure comfort before moving in.
- Setting Clear Expectations – Roles, responsibilities, and household routines are discussed in advance.
- Final Decisions with Participant Choice – Participants and their guardians have the final say, ensuring choice and control.
- Ongoing Evaluation – Tenant satisfaction is continuously monitored, with rolling leases and flexible arrangements.
